The Xingtone software application is a very simple program. You can solve most problems that occur with the tips outlined here. Please review before contacting support. A Xingtone software tutorial is also available.

Where can I find specific instructions for my phone?
Inside the xingtone application you'll find an HTML/add window on the right-hand side. That window will contain a link that allows you to view download/save my ringtone instructions for your particular phone.

I lost my serial number. Where can I find it?
Once you purchase Xingtone, you will receive a serial number that you must enter in the software. It is also sent to you via email. If you ever need to retrieve it, go to the account management page. To enter your serial number in the software, please follow these steps:
1. Open the program
2. Go to Options >> Settings to display the Setup Menu
3. Edit your profile and paste serial number in profile
4. Press Save and OK to exit Setup Menu
5. Select File >> Open to access your own audio

Why won't the program allow me to use my own audio even though I already paid for the software?
There are a few possible reasons:
1. You have not entered your serial number or entered it incorrectly. Double-check that for accuracy.
2. The software is not connecting to the Internet and recognizing your paid status. Please temporarily suspend any firewalls or web-filters that may prevent this connection.

Note: If you had previously purchased Version 3.0 and then downloaded/installed the current Version 4.0, you have two options:
1. Purchase Version 4.0 for $19.95 and your current serial number will be automatically activated.
2. Continue using Version 3.0.

How do I know if my phone is Xingtone-compatible?
Please check the Phones section and use the Test Your Phone link to see if your phone and network is compatible with Xingtone. All of the phones listed on that page allow you to convert mp3 and wav files into ringtones.

To test a phone that is not listed, go to http://xingtone.com/test.html in your mobile browswer. You will see 7 test formats. Click on each link and attempt to download each of those test files. Files 1-4 & 7 are real music ringtones so if one of those downloads successfully, contact Xingtone Support and tell us your phone model and which test file you downloaded.

Why doesn't Xingtone support Nextel
This mobile network provides data service through a closed network or "walled garden" that doesn't allow outside content to travel through its network. If you use Nextel and would like to use Xingtone, you are welcome to contact Nextel directly to express your interest in the Xingtone product.

Can I use Xingtone outside of the US & Canada?
Xingtone is beginning to test a beta version that will allow consumers outside of North America to use Xingtone. If you would like to participate in such testing, please go to Xingtone's International section.

Can I try Xingtone before purchasing the software?
Yes, and we recommend that you do so to ensure that your hardware and mobile systems are compatible. When you download Xingtone Version 4.0, you can try the program with the ringtones provided in the software. When you purchase the software, you just enter your serial number in the Setup Menu and it automatically becomes fully functional. You don't have to download a new copy of the software.

When you open the program for the first time, please enter your phone number, serial number, phone model, and mobile network and double-check for accuracy.

Can I send ringtones to multiple phone numbers in one copy of the software?
Yes. We ask that you purchase a license for any phone number to which you wish to send ringtones. It prevents distribution abuse and we feel that $19.95 per phone number is a pretty good deal when you consider that you can make an infinite number of ringtones and use your own audio.

To add another phone number in the software, open the Setup Menu, CREATE a new profile using the additional phone number, serial number, phone model, mobile network and press SAVE and OK to exit. You can only send a ringtone to one phone at a time, but you can certainly use the same audio clip for each quite easily.

How do I install the program?
When you download the program to your desktop, all program contents are zipped in the WinZip format. If you do not have WinZip, you can download it for free. Once you unzip the contents, you begin installation by double-clicking on the SetupV4.exe file and you will be guided through the installation process.

After installation, if you have problems launching the program, you may wish to reboot your system. If you experience errors with the program during normal use, please right-click on the silver part of the program, check the version that you are using and contact Support.

If you decide to reinstall the program, we recommend the following steps:
1. Use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel to uninstall previous program.
2. Go to Program Files folder and delete all Xingtone folders.
3. Empty Recycle Bin
4. Unzip and install the new version of Xingtone.
5. Upon launching the new version for the first time, if it does not prompt you for phone model and network, select Options >> Settings and confirm that all information is correct.

Can I use Xingtone with Mac operating systems?
You can still use Xingtone if you have Virtual PC installed. We recognize the need to provide a true Mac version and aim to do so as soon as possible. Please stay tuned.

How do I make ringtones using my audio files?
The section devoted to Creating Ringtones describes this process in detail. Basically, the process follows these steps:
1. You open an audio file in the program.
2. You listen to the audio, select the segment that you want, and trim it.
3. You upload the audio clip to the phone.
4. You receive a text message from Xingtone.
5. You access the web link in that text message using your mobile browser.
6. You download the file through the mobile Internet.
7. You set it as a real music ringtone for use on your phone.

It's important that you trim your file your audio file before uploading. We recommend that the clip is less than 30 seconds but you may want to try something in the 6-10-second range just to see if it downloads properly. Then, you can experiment with longer segment lengths. To trim, you drag your mouse through the sound file window and then click the trim button. You will see the clip length and approximate file size. Then you press the upload button.

How does the file get to my phone?
The section devoted to Using Ringtones describes this process in more detail. Basically, the audio file is sent directly from your PC to the phone in the form of an Internet link. During uploading, you will see the status of the file during transport. Once you see the Waiting...Check Your Phone status, you can check your phone for the text message. If you see an error such as "Attempt to Connect Rejected," it is likely that you are operating behind a firewall, which prevents the text message and file from reaching your phone. Please try suspending any firewalls or web filters temporarily and try re-sending the file.

What should I do with the text message that arrives on my phone?
The text message tells your phone where your ringtone is located. You must keep the program open on your desktop in order to receive the text message. If you upload a ringtone and do not receive a text message on your phone very soon after that, please go to Options >> Settings and confirm that you have selected the correct phone model and network. Also, make sure that your coverage area is adequate enough to receive data/text messages.

How do I connect to the link in my Mobile Browser
All Xingtone-compatible phones have an option that takes you to the Internet link. This option may vary from phone-to-phone so any option such as Visit Site, Go To, or Extract URL/Address is the one to choose.

Sometimes this connection process takes time. Keep in mind that you are making a wireless connection to the Internet and network traffic comes into play. Please be patient. If you have consistent trouble, try to access another web page in your mobile browser just to make sure that your are able to transmit mobile data.

What if I receive an error while trying to download the file?
Many errors reported during this process include Bad Gateway, Unsupported Format, or Forbidden. We hate these words just as much as you do, but such errors usually occur because there is temporary congestion on your mobile network or the ringtone file size is too large for your phone to accept. Please trim your file to a shorter length and test what file size/length you can successfully download through the network.

Should the ringtone quality be the same for all audio files?
Depending on the quality of your source file and your phone's speaker, you may notice variations in ringtone quality. You can experiment with the volume setting in the program to make slight adjustments. If you are still not satisfied, please keep in mind that there is a lot of compression taking place. Quality will only improve over time as networks allow customers to transmit more data and phones become more sophisticated. Xingtone will always allow you to take full advantage of that in our software.
