O2 Offers To Unlock IPhones

With the iPhone market the subject of intense recent competition following the end to O2’s exclusive contract, the UK market leader have announced a surprising move: they will unlock iPhones for free, providing current users honour the remainder of their contracts, and will make the unlock option available to their pre-pay customers as well.

Contract customers can access the service by entering their details into the form on O2’s website, though the unlocking can take up to 14 days to complete, whereas its available at an extremely quick turn around (though at a price) from plenty of other sources. Pre-pay customers can also take advantage of the service, though they must have had their phone for more than a year, and will be charged £15 for the unlocking, which will be deducted from the credit balance on the phone. Unlocking will be confirmed by text, and can be checked by inserting an alternative network’s SIM card into the phone and accessing iTunes, which confirms the process is complete.

For further information, see O2’s unlocking website, here.
