UK Ringtones Chart 21/03/2010

UK Singles Chart:

1. Lady Gaga featuring Beyonce – Telephone (last week – 11) – SONG OF THE WEEK!

You haven’t seen the video yet? You can probably imagine what a potent combination Lady Gaga and her predecessor Beyonce make, and the video has helped propel this track up the charts into the expected number one position. A good thing, too, as if it wasn’t for this single we’d be looking at an entirely unchanged top five…

2.  Tinie Tempah – Pass Out (last week – 1)

Rapper Tinie Tempah drops from number one on his third week on the charts, though no doubt he’s still wallowing in the glory of an utterly unexpected smash. The South London based Nigerian has come out of nowhere to rank in the singles charts, following a minor hit several years ago and plenty of time in the wilderness. An impressive comeback.

3. Rihanna – Rude Boy (last week – 2)

Rihanna’s feisty track could serve as a lesson to women (stick with Mr. nice guy), or a tribute to the not so nice guys she can’t help getting involved with. Either way, the vivacious diva’s won plenty of sympathy and an armful of new fans with the track. Not that she was short of support in the first place… Download Rihanna Ringtones here.

4. Justin Bieber featuring Ludacris – Baby (last week – 3)

Justin Bieber’s fast becoming Canada’s most sought after export, with this single marking his first major success ‘across the pond’. It’s quite a coup getting Ludacris on as an extra, too, and a sure sign of just how far Justin’s come. He’s no longer a Baby… Get Justin Bieber Ringtones for your mobile, here.

5. Ellie Goulding – Starry Eyed (last week – 4)

Ellie Goulding’s rise from the wilderness has been nothing short of meteoric. Technically the 23 year old is still on a gap year from university granted to persue her increasingly impressive musical career. Can you see her going back? We certainly can’t, she’s fast becoming an electro-pop princess.

UK Albums Chart:

1. Lady Gaga – The Fame (last week – 5)

Another single, and another stab at the number one spot for Ms. Gaga. The Fame is a truly special example of how to make a pop album, catchy and irrepressible, every track infectious enough to get played to the point where it’s at least slightly irritating, and 62 weeks at the high end of the UK album charts. Can’t argue with that. Get hold of Lady Gaga Ringtones here.

2. The Glee Cast – Glee The Music Season One Volume 2 (new entry)

There are few more divisive programs on television right now that Glee: you can be pretty certain that after one episode you’ll either love it or hate it. Like the first volume, this accompanying CD features a host of the high school musical’s best efforts, most of which are well-worn covers. Again, you’ll love it or hate it…

3. Boyzone – Brother (new entry)

Are these guys still going? You have to respect Boyzone’s efforts to carry on, especially given the unfashionable nature of boy bands these days (ok, they never were that fashionable where they, we just got older…). Brother is the first original album for 12 years, and it seems Boyzone still have plenty of fans.

4. Gorillaz – Plastic Beach (new entry)

One of the most hyped albums of the New Year, Plastic Beach has struggled slightly, in part because of the sheer weight of expectation generated by its two predecessors. Reviews have been mixed, and perhaps weighted a little by the length of the wait. We think it’s pretty special. You can grab Gorillaz Ringtones here.

5. Alicia Keys – The Element Of Freedom (last week – 3)

We mistakenly labelled this album a flop early on, not because of the content, but because it was the first of Alicias not to go in at number one. It didn’t take long to get there, though, and in truth it’s a smashing new album. Score one for the diva. Alicia Keys ringtones can be found here.
