About ChanteleA popular Puerto Rican musical trio, Chantelle broke the mould of Spanish merengue music, as one of the first bands to be entirely female. Performing for only four years - from 1988 to 1992, the threesome hit the Spanish charts hard with the single Aunque tu no Quieras ("Even if you Don't Want to"), about a couple splitting up despite their strong feelings for one another. The band are also known as 'Chantal' (a Spanish translation of the original name in French), and after their split one of their members - Olga Tanon - went on to become perhaps the best known female merengue style artist of her era, scoring two latin chart number ones and numerous top 10s.
