About Herbie HancockHerbie Hancock has become one of the most well known jazz musicians of the 20th century through his relentless experimentation, indulging in funk, synth and pop sounds yet still managing to keep his style accessible, an effect that's made him a highly sought after performer. In 2008 he became only the second jazz musician to win a Grammy Award (for 'River: The Joni Letters'), while singles I Thought It Was You and regular mainstays Cantaloupe Island and Watermelon Man have become Herbie's signature tracks. Hancock raised his status considerably after being personally tracked down by Miles Davis to join his legendary quartet, and went on to release dozens of solo albums, many of which later became collector's items. Hancock also performed in the band 'The Head Hunters', and sometimes refers to himself by the Swahili word for writer, 'Mwandishi'.
