About In FlamesOften marked as a pioneer of the death metal genre, Swedes In Flames have sold more than two million albums worldwide, and originally formed as a side project to another death metal band, Ceremonial Oath. They've now been going strong since 1990, and - unusually for a band of their genre - even charted in the UK and the US with 2008 album 'A Sense of Purpose'. 2004 single The Quiet Place, one of only four singles ever released by In Flames (they have nine studio albums) - reached number two in their native Sweden. The band uses the Jester Head as a symbol, which appears on all their album covers and a great deal of their merchandise. Their growling vocals combined with melodic guitars have become the distinctive sound of both In Flames and the death metal genre itself.
