About James BrownThe Godfather of soul, or the hardest working man in show business: whatever you know James Brown as, you almost certainly do know him. His feverish dance moves, decades of hits and distinctive sound kept the South Carolina native in the limelight right up until his death in 2006, aged 73, when he was still performing regularly. He was also well known for his social activism, and often incorporated 'the cape routine' into his performances, in which he'd pretend to be exhausted, stagger off stage, and then return for an encore. Internationally recognizable singles include Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine, I Got You (I Feel Good) and Please, Please, Please. The 1963 album 'Live At the Apollo' is often held up as one of the greatest recordings of all time.
