About Maroon 5Known as Kara's Flowers prior to a 2002 renaming, American rockers Maroon 5's debut Songs about Jane launched them on to the world stage off the back of massive hits Harder to Breathe, This Love and She Will Be Loved. With a radio friendly, pop rock sound, album sales crept up slowly following the release of the singles, eventually peaking at number one in the UK and number six in the US. The band's explicit videos - some of them starring lead singer Adam Levine in compromising sexual positions with his girlfriend - caused media controversy; the record label ended up covering the more explicit parts of the videos with flowers, ala American Beauty, much to the band's disgust. Follow up album It Wont Be Soon Before Long was somewhat less successful, despite massive number one single Makes Me Wonder, a gently political single referencing the Iraq war.
