About Massive AttackBristol duo Massive Attack - best known for their downbeat electronic sound that's said to define a genre they created themselves, 'trip hop' - are best known for the striking, dreamy sounds of 90s singles Teardrop and Unfinished Sympathy. With tracks that tend to be slow-paced and heavily atmospheric, the twosome's spacey, psychedelic sound often lacks choruses, favoring haunting vocal crescendos and the prominent use of orchestral instruments, topped off with hefty studio mixing. Often melancholy, and occasionally wallowing in heart-felt eclecticism and dream-like vocals, Massive Attack has become an underground English institution. Collected, a Massive Attack 'best of' album released in 2006 bought the duo back into public prominence; a fifth studio album is expected in 2010. The band once had Geoff Barrow - of now legendary Bristol band Portishead - as their studio tea boy.
