About Masters of CeremonyUnderground New York City rap group Masters of Ceremony existed briefly in the mid 80s, and while they had limited commercial success, remain notable for first publicizing member Grand Puba's unique, reggae-infused vocal stylings and mic work. Having been produced by hip-hop legend Jazzy Jay, Masters of Ceremony received substantial critical acclaim for both lives shows and recordings, but made no notable impact on the industry outside of New York. 1988 album Dynamite's lack of commercial success eventually led to the group's demise, though their three members - Grand Puba, Doctor Who and DJ Shabazz - all went on to have their own musical successes. Dynamite is now considered a rare collectors item amongst New York's hip-hop connoisseurs.
