About MemphisVancouver minimalists Memphis are a slow-paced, tuneful duo known for their dreamy melodies and lo-fi use of pianos and guitar. Their two records - A Good Day Sailing and I Dreamed We Fell Apart - explore jazzy sounds, delicate harmonies and lyrics extolling love and adolescence, with a style that hints gently at northern English indie mainstays Beautiful South. Writer and producer Chris Dumont's long-standing affiliation with New York's Central Park Carousels has resulted in the rides becoming something a symbol for the band. The two members of Memphis are also involved in numerous other projects, giving the band a slightly sporadic feel, with other undertakings including successful Toronto rockers Stars and international indie band Metric.
