Their style is typical of bands on the infamous Elephant 6 label, and incorporates a psychedelic twist on straight up pop music. Nine studio albums to date have built a loyal underground following, though only 2008's 'Skeletal Lamping' has charted in the US Top 40. Songs often incorporate imaginative fictional narratives, frequently with an intensely gloomy lyrical content (such as suicide and depression) despite the bands unwaveringly upbeat sound. Some of the albums are heavily conceptual, including extremely odd twists and turns and sound variations. Of Montreal feature heavily in numerous side projects, yet continue to produce a lot of their own music, and are expected to release new album 'False Priest' in early 2010.
