About Q-TipA hip-hop artist from Queens, New York, Q-Tip remains best known as a part of notorious group A Tribe Called Quest. Having recently rejoined the band and headed on tour after an on and off break of nearly ten years, Q-Tip has also established himself as a solo artist, and released his third solo album Kamaal the Abstract in 2009. Whilst Q-Tip has never reached the heights of A Tribe Called Quest working on his own, early, more pop leaning singles Vivrant Thing and Breathe and Stop showed a desire to create his own new niche. Q-Tip was born Jonathon Davies, and converted to Islam in the mid 90s, legally renaming himself Kamaal Fareed. Q-Tip has also produced a series of major songs for artists like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Nas, and takes the name Q-Tip from his childhood look: tall and skinny with big hair.
