About Rise AgainstFormed in 1999, Rise Against is an American punk / punk rock band from Chicago, fronted by Tim McIlrath. All of the band members excluding the drummer are straight edge - they don't drink or do any drugs. They are also vocal supporters for various animal right charities including PETA and are vegetarians. Rise Against also openly announced support for president Obama in the recent elections, so it's difficult to accuse Rise Against of not living up their punk activism roots. The band is heavier than most contemporary punk artists and could be described as being closer to the hardcore genre. The band has cited famous hardcore punk bands like Black Flag and Minor threat as their key influences. They are also clearly influenced by bands like Bad Religion in their politically motivated, intelligent music. The band are currently are touring the US for 2009 with stars like Rancid and Billy Talent.
