About Simply RedSimply Red formed in 1984 by lead singer Mick Hucknall, born in Manchester in 1960. Other members of the original line-up included Tony Bowers, Chris Joyce and Tim Kellett. Their debut album 'Picture Book' featured two hit singles 'Money's Too Tight (To Mention)' and 'Holding Back the Years', the latter of which had large chart success in the US, causing the album to reach platinum status.Although their second album didn't perform so well, Simply Red's third effort, 'A New Flame' went gold thanks to the strength of the Blue Notes cover 'If you Don't Know Me by Now'. Although their fourth album 'Stars' didn't do so well in the US it became the best selling album on 1991 in the UK and created two top ten hits for the band in their home country.Mick Hucknall has announced that the band will split up in 2010 after a worldwide farewell tour this year.
