About Smashing PumpkinsThe Smashing Pumpkins began life in Chicago in the late eighties. The band was formed by guitarists and vocalists Billy Corgan and James Tha. The Smashing Pumpkins have recorded a variety of different genres but could be broadly described as alternative rock with a healthy dose of psychedelic and dream pop mixed into the equation.Through the early nineties and the emergence of bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, the pumpkins were often labelled as a grunge band. It was with this 1993 album 'Siamese Dream' that the Pumpkins really found their mark however, debuting at 10 in the US charts and selling four million copies in the US.The band broke up in 2000 only to reform headed by Billy Corgan in 2006 to create the commercially popular 2007 release 'Zeitgeist' which has since gone gold.After Jimmy Chamberlain's departure from the reformed band in 2009, Billy Corgan plans to release single songs, one at a time as he works on new material.
