About Smokey RobinsonSmokey Robison (Real name William Robinson, Jr) was born in Detroit in 1940. Famous for being a singer-songwriter and record producer, Robinson's musical career has been an overwhelming success, recording over 35 top 40 Motown hits in just 27 years and serving as the vice president for the label since 1961.Singing with the Miracles during the 60s, Smokey produced a string of well known Motown hits which lead him to further this career as a solo artist during the 1970s. He's also a prolific songwriter and it was his impact in the field, combined with his talents in music production that lead to much of Motown's early success.Robinson suffered from a cocaine addiction in the eighties but with help from friends worked through it and began to revitalise his career, releasing his autobiography and being inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This moved caused some controversy as none of the original members of the Miracles joined him.
