About SoundgardenSoundgarden formed in Seattle in 1984 and was one of the first bands credited with the creation of the massive grunge movement of the early nineties, which in turn has been labelled as the grandfather of modern alternative music. With that sort of legacy, it's easy to see why Soundgarden are still very well known amongst music fans, despite the bands break up in 1997.Featuring Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil and Hiro Yamamoto in the original line-up, Soundgarden didn't receive any commercial success during the time until bands like Nirvana popularised the grunge movement.Soundgarden's biggest success was unarguably their 1994 release, 'Superunknown' which reached number one in the US album charts and won the band Grammy Awards for the singles 'Black Hole Sun' and 'Spoonman'. The band has sold over 20 million records worldwide.The band split in 1997 due to arguments of their new creative direction following the end of the grunge era.
