About Vanessa CarltonBest known for single A Thousand Miles from debut album Be Not Nobody, soft rock singer Vanessa Carlton has since disappeared into a post-superstar black hole, with follow up album Harmonium failing to make any real chart impact. Having allegedly learnt to play It's a Small World on the piano at the age of two, following a trip to Disneyland, the singer was a born musician, and pursued her passion heavily, performing in bars while she waitressed as a student at Columbia University. Be Not Nobody was an album of unsure direction, according to Carlton, but nevertheless sold by far her most records to date, in excess of two million worldwide. She's also well known for her vocal contribution to cult American rock band Counting Crows' cover of the Joni Mitchell environmentalist track Big Yellow Taxi, which features in the film Two Weeks Notice.
